of Bengal has been undertaken by Paschim Banga Bangla Akademi (PBBA). So far 65,000 pages have been digitised, which includes manuscripts, letters and notes from eminent Bengali novelists like Rabindranath Tagore, Manik Bandyopadhyay, Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, Amritalal Basu, Annada Shankar Ray, Leela Majumdar, Leela Ray, Tarashankar Bandyopadhyay. Rare ‘Punthis’ have also been digitized. The Department has envisaged the digitisation of the invaluable books, documents, audio-visual material kept in the libraries of the various Cultural Academies under itself, in order to preserve the rich cultural legacy of the State.
In order to commemorate the 75th year of India’s Independence a 39 members committee under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Chief Minister and other dignitaries / experts in various fields has been constituted. A permanent Exhibition has been set up by I&CA Department at the Alipur Independence Museum in this regard.
4(four) nos. cinematograph films made by and on legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray have been successfully digitized. Apart from that 11 Celluloid features films and 30 Celluloid short films have been taken up for digitization and restoration with collaboration of National Film Archive of India (NFAI), Pune from the end of Chalachitra Satabarsha Bhavan. All these 4(four) digitized films have been screened during KIFF and other cinema festivals. Simultaneously, the State Govt. has taken initiative to digitize and restore all Govt. produced films being preserved in the State Film Archive at Chalachitra Satabarsha Bhavan.
