The Information and Cultural Affairs Department is created to disseminate Information of public importance; maintain cordial relationship between the Government and public; nurture as well as promote rich as well as esthetic wealth of Bengal; create an encouraging ambience in the fields of Art & Couture, Literature & Languages, Films and Festivals and preserve Historical as well as Archaeological objects and monuments for overall development of Society.

A good number of officers of this Department has been serving Public Relation Officer in other Departments of the State Government including Kolkata Police, and West Bengal Police Directorate. The Press Secretary to the Hon’ble Governor is provided from this Department.

This Department has been committed to inspire young talents and provide various supports to the experienced ones to ventilate their creative potentialities through its various academies, auditoria, society, autonomous institutions and other bodies, besides the following 4 (four) directorates.
